According to the SovSpot Passport Ranking Index, the South African passport is now ranked 54th. It allows citizens of 103 countries to travel without a visa. Visa-free travel and visa-on-arrival are available to South African passport holders in countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Israel, and Russia. South African citizens, on the other hand, need a visa to visit 126 countries across the world, including Taiwan, Canada, Mexico, the United States, and the European Union as a whole. Because to the high visa requirement, the mobility score is medium.

There are now 71 visa-free countries for South African passport holders, 31 visa-on-arrival countries for South African passport holders, and 1 eTA destination.
