Passport Overview

According to the SovSpot Passport Ranking Index, the Seychellois passport is presently ranked 27th. It allows entrance to 154 countries without requiring a visa. Seychellois passport holders receive visa-free access and visas on arrival to countries such as Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and the entire European Union, giving it a better overall mobility score and making it a desirable passport. This enables for practically quick travel to some of the world's most popular destinations. Seychellois passport holders, on the other hand, need a visa to visit around 75 countries. Thailand, the United States, and Australia are among the nations that require a visa.

Seychelles Passport Visa Free Countries

The number of countries Seychelles passport holders can enter without a visa (i.e. visa-free countries) and those Seychelles passport holders can enter by obtaining a visa on arrival (i.e. visa-on-arrival countries) or an electronic travel authorization is added up to determine the Seychelles passport ranking relative to other global passports (eTA). There are now 125 visa-free Seychelles passport countries, 27 visa-on-arrival Seychelles countries, and two eTA destinations. Seychelles passport holders can visit a total of 154 countries, either without a visa, with a visa on arrival, or with an electronic travel authorization (eTA). As a result, the Seychelles passport is ranked number 27 in the world. Separate from the Seychelles visa-free and visa-on-arrival countries, there are 75 other destinations where Seychelles passport holders will need a physical visa or an eVisa to access (i.e. visa required countries).

You can apply for citizenship by ancestry in the Seychelles if:

  • any of your parent or grandparent was born in Seychelles;
  • You have not been sentenced to a term of imprisonment exceeding 1 year or more for an offence punishable under any laws of Seychelles;
  • You have obtain at least 80% marks in 1 of the 3 national languages in the citizenship qualifying examination.

Note: Keep in mind that the costs for citizenship by descent applications can vary and depend on many factors, such as:

  • The availability of official documents in different countries (if past family members migrated);
  • The availability of historic documents;
  • Sworn translation costs;
  • Price only includes main applicant, in case of adding children or spouses, this can incur additional costs);
  • Whether or not a genealogist is needed to prove ancestry;
  • Other unforeseen costs.
