According to the SovSpot Passport Ranking Index, the Sao Tomean passport is now ranked 81st. It allows visa-free travel to 63 countries. Visa-free travel and visas on arrival are available to Sao Tomean passport holders in countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Iran. Passport holders from Sao Tome and Principe, however, are required to obtain a visa in order to travel to 166 countries around the world. Thailand, Turkey, Russia, and the whole European Union are among the nations that require a visa. Because of the high visa requirement, the mobility score is poor.
The number of countries Sao Tome and Principe passport holders can enter without a visa (i.e. visa-free countries) is added to the number of countries Sao Tome and Principe passport holders can enter by obtaining a visa on arrival (i.e. visa-on-arrival countries) or an electronic travel authorization (i.e. visa-on-arrival countries) (eTA). There are currently 25 visa-free countries for Sao Tome and Principe passport holders, 37 visa-on-arrival countries for Sao Tome and Principe passport holders, and 1 eTA destination. In total, Sao Tome and Principe passport holders can visit 63 countries without a visa, via a visa on arrival, or via an eTA. As a result, the passport of Sao Tome and Principe is ranked 81st in the world. Apart from the visa-free and visa-on-arrival countries, there are 166 other countries where Sao Tome and Principe passport holders will need a physical visa or an eVisa (i.e. visa required countries).
